The VI edition of the Forum on Tourism in the Mediterranean “From Competition to Cooperation” will be held in Rimini from 26th to 28th November 2006, as each year, in concurrence with the International Hotel Equipment Exhibition (SIAGUEST), which this year will celebrate its fifty-sixth edition.
This now consolidated appointment has been held regularly since 2000, the year when the Chamber of Commerce and the Italian Trade Commission set up this important project. Over the years it has continued to grow and has also developed other important initiatives, such as the creation of the Inter-Mediterranean Tourism Association, whose members include leading public and private stakeholders from several Mediterranean countries. The association’s main mission is the promotion of the global tourism chain and the realisation of special projects aimed at promoting the Mediterranean Basin in faraway destinations, such as the United States and Japan.
Eight overseas delegations of economic operators linked to the tourism chain will come to Rimini (Croatia, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey) where “one-to-one” meetings will be organised for them with the many Italian entrepreneurs interested in taking part in this initiative.
The theme chosen for the VI edition of the forum is that of the local identity linked to tourism development and therefore, the relationship between tradition and innovation. Discussions will focus on the possible scenarios for the development of the tourism phenomenon, not only in terms of quantity but also with regards to the prospects for growth in the quality of the tourism offer, in particular with regards to projects that aim to combine efficient and modern services with the local culture (which is unique) of the various tourist destinations.
A round table, coordinated by Tullio Di Pietro, Deputy General Manager for the Promotion of Trade in the Ministry for Overseas Trade, will therefore focus on the theme of socio-cultural sustainability. All the institutional guests from the eight overseas delegations, individuals carefully chosen by the Italian Trade Commission offices and who have worked in their own countries to create a modern tourism offer that is nevertheless strongly characterised by local culture, will participate. The aim of the discussion will be to highlight important public and private experiences and therefore, to exchange “best practices”.
